John Bursch serves as Vice President of Appellate Advocacy for Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a global public-interest law firm defending religious liberty, free speech, parental rights, marriage and family, and the right to life. He also owns Bursch Law PLLC, a Michigan-based appellate boutique. John will soon be arguing his 14th case at the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also argued 36 cases in the Michigan Supreme Court and many more cases in en banc courts, state supreme courts, and intermediate federal and state courts across the country.
John served as Michigan Solicitor General from 2011–2013, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and is a member of the American Law Institute. He has enjoyed repeated listings in Best Lawyers (for Bet-the-Company, Commercial, and Appellate Litigation), Michigan Super Lawyers (including a Top 10 in Michigan listing), and Benchmark Litigation (which has described him as a “State litigation star”). John is the author of Loving God’s Children: The Church and Gender Ideology (Sophia Institute Press).
